History of Tojiro

Tojiro's story began in 1955 with a stainless steel fruit knife. At the time, it was said that stainless steel knives did not retain their sharp edges as long as carbon steel knives. Tojiro considered that a challenge, and they aimed to develop the perfect stainless steel kitchen knife. Even still, Tojiro remains committed to this cause! Tojiro also strives for perfection in ergonomics and design. As such, their motto is 'More than just sharpness.'

Tojiro knives are still made in Tsubame-Sanjo, Japan. This is an area of Japan that has been famous for its metal industry for hundreds of years. For example, production of Wakugi (Japanese nails) began as early as 1600, as well as other metal goods such as knives, pipes, brassware, metal-cutting, cutlery and much more!
