Features of Due Cigni Coquus

The knives in this series from Due Cigni include knives made from damascus steel and knives made from X50CrMoV15 stainless steel. Will you choose a classic look or an intricate design?

Due Cigni Coquus steel type

The 'standard' Due Cigni Coquus kitchen knives are made from X50CrMoV15 stainless steel. This steel is very strong and corrosion resistant. The knives with blades made from Balbach Damast steel show wavy markings in the steel. These lines are the result of the two different types of steel that were used. Because of a difference in carbon content, these types of steel will get a different colour during the forging process. This causes the markings to appear. The knife is stainless, but to make sure you can enjoy this remarkable blade for a long time we recommend cleaning it by hand.

Due Cigni Coquus handle

The handles of the X50CrMoV15 steel Coquus knives are made from one piece of smoked oak. This is a beautiful, light-weight material that works great with the satin-finished blade. The bolster and the pin that attaches the handle to the steel are made from stainless steel. The knives made from damascus steel have a handle made from one piece of grenadilla wood, an African wood known for its dark colour. This type of wood is often used for musical instruments and decorative pieces. It is no surprise Due Cigni used this material for these decorative knives. The pin that secures the handle to the steel is made from a titanium bronze alloy. It is a lightweight and rock-solid material with a stunning brown-bronze colour.
