With this Shapton Pro Stone grain 8000 you can sharpen quickly and evenly. This ceramic Japanese sharpening stone has a grain size of 8000. A great stone when polishing a razor-sharp edge. This stone, however, is also great when sharpening straight razors. The stone can be used with almost all types of knives. From outdoor knives to kitchen knives, from pocket knives to chisels.

Purchased this as a whim. I already own the 1000/1500/2000/5000 stones and these do a superb job of creating a razors edge on my knives. The 8000 grit stone gives the final edge a highly polished look, whether it improves the sharpness is up for debate. Did I really need this stone, probably not, but this is nothing like other 8000 grit standard whetstones, it is far superior and more like a 10000/12000 regular grit stone in my opinion.

An excellent waterstone which I use for achieving a mirror finish. I currently follow this by stropping with a balsa/leather strop, but I am not sure this last step is really necessary.
