The Spyderco Moran Drop Point FB02P Black FRN is a gracefully simple knife designed by the legendary Bill Moran. Bill Moran is recognised as the grandfather of American craft knife making and the founder of the American Bladesmith Society. More than 50 years ago, he started forging steel and making knives. If you are lucky enough to find a handmade Moran, you should count on a price of at least five figures. Indeed, his work and designs are so hugely appreciated and so highly regarded. Spyderco is privileged to offer a production version of one of his designs, inspired by Bill Moran's timeless tradition. This production knife is available in two blade shapes: the FB01 has an upwardly curved Bowie-style blade, the FB02 has a drop-point blade. Both blades have a flat grind made from Japanese VG-10 steel and bear Bill's signature. They are ground out thinner towards the tip to create a fine, evenly ground tip for cutting work that requires precision. The knife offers a unique balance, described by some as a ‘sweet spot.' This balance comes from the fact that the blade and handle are well matched in terms of weight. This manifests itself in a feeling of good control over the blade. The FRN handle feels great in hand and features a panel of non-slip Kraton that ensures a good grip in all kinds of situations, such as humid weather. Both models are highly recommended for hunting and camping and come with a moulded Boltaron sheath with a multi-position G-Clip™ attachment system for optimal carrying comfort.
