It doesn't get much cooler than the **Reate K4**. What a fantastic knife this is! Here Reate demonstrates once again that it is one of the best manufacturers on the market. The details and sublime finish on this pocket knife are truly awe-inspiring. Reate combines clean lines with an excellent eye for detail, and has used only the best materials to bring this magnificent design to life.


The most eye-catching feature on the Reate K4 is its Damascus steel inlay. There are two beautiful pieces of Damascus steel on the side of the handle. You'll also find the same steel in the pivot collar around the pivot. The whimsical Damascus contrasts beautifully with the clean lines milled into the handle.


There is a dotted line along the top edge of the handle, where five ceramic balls have been pressed into the handle. A subtle reference to the ceramic ball bearings that make this pocket knife run so incredibly smoothly. The number five is also reflected in the backspacer, in the subtle grooves that have been added there. You can see them again on the back of the handle above the pivot.



The blade is made from Böhler M390 steel, a stainless powder steel made in Austria. It is incredibly stainless and has excellent sharpness retention. The beautiful hollow grind has a lovely satin finish in two directions. The transition from this *grind* to the flat-ground part at the tip has a very Japanese feel.


The contours of the handle and the clean lines of the blade are sublime. The differences in finish on the blade also show that they really know what they're doing at Reate. Many Western producers can only dream of this quality. And all that from a production knife! 



You open the blade with the flipper. The ceramic detent (which typically holds the blade in the handle) is perfectly adjusted. Sturdy enough to flip easily, but soft enough to feel pleasant against your finger. The ceramic ball bearings around the pivot allow the knife to open super smoothly. When opened, the blade is locked in place by a solid frame lock. As we've come to expect from Reate, the lockbar has a steel insert. This prevents the lock from going too far, so it will stay in great condition for years to come.




The Reate K4 comes in a luxurious storage case. This includes an additional pouch with two steel rings and some extra screws. So if you ever damage one of the screws, you already own a couple of spares. Very user-friendly!
