With the **Jack Wolf Gunslinger Jack Full Titanium Checkered**, Benjamin Belkin of Jack Wolf Knives releases a new type of knife. It looks like the Sharpshooter Jack, but there are clear differences. The Gunslinger can be opened with one hand and features a locking mechanism!

You open the pocket knife with the front flipper or the nail nick. The ceramic ball bearings make the action super smooth. Another novelty is the lock: a Bolster Lock, according to Jack Wolf. In fact it's a framelock that runs through the scale, underneath the carbon fibre, so the end of the lockbar is in the bolster. As you would expect from a knife of this calibre, the knife features a lockbar insert made from hardened steel. This insert ensures that the lock will function perfectly for years to come.

And the innovations don't end there! The knife even features a titanium pocket clip. Nicely milled-out and anodised. Not a fan of clips? The knife comes with a plug that you can install instead of the pocket clip. So are there no downsides at all? Well... Since the clip means that you no longer need a leather slip sheath, it is missing from this edition.

## Hollow-grind blade made from CPM S90V steel
The blade of this Jack Wolf pocket knife is made from CPM S90V steel from Crucible, a premium type of American steel that retains its sharpness extremely well. The clip point blade has a very neat hollow grind, which gives the knife great cutting capabilities.

## Titanium handle 
The handle is made from titanium with a checkered pattern. This ensures that the knife is very lightweight, has a graceful design and also feels perfect in hand.

Couteau assez exceptionnel. 
Je sais que certains vont souligner que le prix est élevé pour une fabrication chinoise, certes. 
Mais il faut remettre les choses dans leur contexte: on parle d'une qualité d'assemblage et de finition exceptionnelle, dans la lignée de ce que savent faire les boites chinoises qui produisent du haut de gamme, avec en plus une identité visuelle particulière, un vrai travail de design (on aime ou on déteste), loin des productions aseptisées de nombreux constructeurs. 
Il semble d'ailleurs que le patron de Jack Wolf se soit tourné vers une fabrication chinoise car aucun prestataire américain ne lui proposait la même qualité de finition, ou alors pour des tarifs déraisonnables.

Et franchement, j'ai vu passer des couteaux de marques réputées, made in US ou made in Japan, à des prix comparables ou (très) supérieurs, qui auraient à rougir, comparativement.

En termes d'usage: 
-c'est un excellent pliant, léger (manche titane), dont la lame est extrêmement tranchante grâce à un excellent acier (peut-être ce qui se fait de mieux à mes yeux pour un petit pliant destiné à trancher, sans travailler en impact), une lame d'une épaisseur raisonnable et une émouture creuse redoutable (le fil est extrêmement fin): c'est un excellent slicer, qui n'a pas à rougir face à un Opinel (la durabilité du fil en plus), qui demeure une référence. (oui, je sais, le pris n'a rien à voir, mais je ne compare que cet aspect)
 
-le frame lock est très bien réglé avec des tolérances hyper précises, les roulements à bille sont très fluides (la fermeture se fait sans problème à une main, même si la légèreté de la lame rend cela un peu moins instantané que sur d'autres pliants de même taille).

-Au niveau de l'ouverture...ça passe, mais j'ai vu mieux, évidemment: la détente est très bien réglée est le mécanisme est fluide, mais disons que que le front flipper, c'est un coup à prendre.

-L'anodisation du titane est très réussie et semble devoir tenir sur la durée (à confirmer). On apprécie le sens du détail, par exemple l'absence de vis apparentes au niveau du clip et la présence d'une petite pièce pour masquer le trou si vous voulez enlever le clip (non réversible, il faut le savoir, par contre). En termes de finition générale...j'ai vu passer pas mal de couteaux et rares sont les pliants à pouvoir rivaliser, y compris des pliants américains bien plus chers. Pour rivaliser, il faut vraiment aller voir du côté de certains customs, et pas n'importe lesquels.

-Au niveau de l'affutage (il était rasoir en sortie de boite, mais j'ai légèrement reprofilé l'angle pour le mettre à 17 degrés par côté): rien d'insurmontable. C'est long, certes et je conseille un bon affuteur (j'utilise un TS PROF, pour mes couteaux un peu "premium"), ça ne se reprend pas en 2 minutes à la DC4 comme un Douk Douk, mais ça reste raisonnable (justement parce que le fil est très fin, donc on enlève peu de matière) et en pratique, en le passant au cuir de temps en temps, vous n'allez pas l'affuter très souvent. Certains aciers bas de gamme avec des fils mal fichus m'ont causé bien plus de problèmes.

-Ce n'est pas seulement un couteau de vitrine, je l'utilise au quotidien sans problème. Alors, certes, il n'est pas aussi pratique et instinctif à manier qu'un Kershaw Iridium M390 (par exemple), la finition pousse à le ménager et ne sera pas adapté à des taches très lourdes (pour ça, il y a Cold Steel, ou mon bon vieux Greco Falcon).
Pourtant, il est vraiment polyvalent: sans être un pur couteau de gentleman, il ne fait pas "peur" ( mais il "intrigue), et il sera aussi à l'aise pour découper du carton (excellente tenue du tranchant, exceptionnelle, même) que pour faire de la petite découpe en cuisine (merci à l'émouture creuse! c'est un excellent trancheur).

J'étais sceptique, avant de commander, j'avoue et j'ai craint la marque purement "marketting", mais ils ont mis dans le mille à mes yeux: on retrouve les qualités de couteaux plus traditionnels (une lame fine, maniable, qui ne ressemble pas à une barre à mine) alliée à des matériaux de pointe (manche full titane, roulements à bille, lame en S90V).

Mon message est extrêmement long, j'en suis conscient, mais sur ma quarantaine de pliants, celui-là est un vrai coup de coeur.
