Pricey. But you get what you pay for most of the time. And this is a great bit of kit. I never thought I would need one because I have some nice water stones and my knives are sharp. But this makes the blades last so much longer between having to get the stones out again. Its not going to bring a dull blade back. But sorts out a blade just losing its edge in not time.

This Henckels 10" honing steel represents excellent value for money, especially for home use. It feels very good in hand and really quite sturdy, with a good amount of available thumb clearance for all but the largest of hands. Most of all: it does what it's supposed to and is suitable for the vast majority of western style kitchen knives, as well as being reasonably proportioned for the most commonly used sizes of knife. A feature I have found useful is a ring on the end of the handle: no slot available for a steel in your knife block? You can hang it up instead of throwing it in a drawer where it can be damaged. If you are new to honing your knives, you can't go far wrong with this and good technique to keep your edges aligned and cutting well for some time.
