The **TOPS Tanimboca Puukko** is a great fixed knife, based on the traditional Finnish Puukko. The Tanimboca is a type of fusion between the Finnish knife tradition and the knives that are used in the Colombian jungle. Designer Goran Mihajlovic comes from Serbia, grew up in Germany, but has now been living in the Colombian jungle for 20 years. He took the basic shape and features of the traditional Puukko and combined it with his own style. TOPS turned this into a production knife.




The blade is made from 1095 carbon steel, and has a razor-sharp edge: a primary Scandi grind with a subtle convex edge that makes it easy to sharpen. Do keep in mind that 1095 steel isn't stainless. Clean the blade after use and occasionally add a drop of oil: simple as that! The benefits of this type of steel are that it is tough and doesn't break easily. 1095 steel is also easy to sharpen. As well as the edge, the spine of the blade is also sharpened. Not a true edge, but the sides are sharpened to make scraping a little easier, such as for tinder or scraping a firesteel.



Even though it is customary for a real Puukko to have one, this Tanimboca Puukko doesn't have a finger groove. The handle extends fairly smoothly towards the edge. This allows you to get closer to the edge, for a little more control. The micarta handle offers plenty of grip. Micarta is composed of linen and synthetic resin. The fibres expand in wet conditions, giving you even more grip. This makes it an ideal material for outdoor knives.



You can carry the TOPS Tanimboca Puukko in the leather sheath.
