The **Spyderco Stok Bowie FB49GPOD** is a fixed blade EDC knife designed by Dutch knife enthusiast and Knivesandtools employee Sjoerd Stok. With its compact size and friendly-looking appearance, the Stok is ideal for urban environments. Also, its low weight of only 100 grams makes the Stok an excellent choice for those looking for an effective back-up blade. While hiking, for instance.

## Stok Bowie blade

The Spyderco Stok is available in two blade shapes: a bowie and a droppoint/sheepsfoot. This is the bowie version. Its sturdy tip and 'saber-ground' blade make it ideal for tough cutting tasks. This is because with this type of sharpening, there is some 'meat' behind the cut, making the blade a bit more robust. The blade is made from 8Cr13MoV steel. This is a strong, stainless type of steel that is easy to sharpen.

## Stok handle

The handle of the Stok is made of OD-green G10 with a 'peel-ply' texture for a good grip. The ergonomic shape and generous finger groove allow many grip methods. The finger groove at the start of the blade is perfect for your index finger for the more precise cutting tasks. Or hold the handle a little further back and place your thumb behind the back of the blade to apply more force. The handle scales are glued on and polished all around for a seamless fit. The end of the handle is enhanced with a lanyard eye to make sure you can attach a piece of paracord. 

## Stok sheath

The sheath of the Stok is made of high-quality Boltaron and made in the USA at Spyderco's factory in Golden, Colorado, USA, Earth. The compact sheath offers multiple carrying options. The Stok is equipped with Spyderco's well-known G-Clip belt clip, but a [UltiClip Slim 2.2 clip for sheaths](/en/pt/-ulticlip-slim-2-2-clip-for-sheaths.htm) wouldn't be out of place either if you prefer to carry the knife attached to your pocket. Also, the Stok's sleek design and square, flat sheath allow it to be carried as a neck knife. 

## Origin of the Spyderco Stok

But who is Sjoerd Stok? That's me! I designed the Spyderco Stok in 2018, just before I started working at Knivesandtools as Content Marketer and Product Specialist for the knife department. At the time, I was in art school and looking for a fixed blade for everyday use. Because when you are finger-deep in paint, constantly opening packages, a fixed blade shines in its simplicity and accessibility. However, most knives were too large, or unsuitable for an urban environment. As a knife enthusiast and Spyderco collector, I asked myself the question: what would the perfect fixed blade Spyderco knife look like to me? Fast-forward five years to 2023 and the Spyderco Stok was born!

I was attracted by this little fixie for edc purposes. I only wish it was full flat or hollow ground but it is what it is. I use it for light to medium cutting chores and it performs quite well. Good service from knivesandtools. Looking forward to my next purchase.
