This Opinel No. 8 pocket knife from the Slim Line series has a length of 18.5 cm and a weight of 28 grams. ### Virobloc lock


The knife has a Virobloc lock, also known as a ring lock. With a Virobloc, the hinges of the blade are firmly blocked by the ring. This type of locking system requires two hands, which means your fingers are less likely to come near the cutting edge. The ring is often also used to lock the knife when closed.


### Steel type


The blade is made from stainless steel Sandvik 12C27 steel. This steel is extremely durable thanks to the addition of chrome. A small amount of carbon has also been added to the steel. Opinel has sharpened the knives until razor-sharp.


### Handle material


The handle is made of beech, a very strong type of wood that you see in many Opinel handles. Please note: long exposure to the sun can discolour the wood. As such, you should always store your knife away from sunlight after use. That way, you can enjoy this beautiful knife for longer!


### Accessories and maintenance


To keep enjoying your Opinel pocket knife for longer, maintenance is essential. A drop of Ballistol oil prevents the wood from drying out and ensures that it won't lose its colour. Opinel, daar kun je je gewoon geen buil aan vallen. Het basisontwerp is zo goed dat het al dik 70 jaar niet is aangepast. Dat wil wat zeggen. Het zijn messen om te snijden, slicers dus. Dun sandvik staal. Scherp van af te fabriek en vreselijk vlijmend scherp te krijgen. Perfect voor allerhande snijwerktuig. Niet om er een boom mee om te hakken. Daar heb je andere messen voor. Dit modelletje is net even wat eleganter maar net zo functioneel en nog steeds ongelofelijk veel waar voor je geld.

J'apprécie globalement cette version élancée de l'opinel, même si elle sacrifie un peu de longueur de coupe en raison d'une entablure trop présente à mon goût.

On la destine plus à la table quand son homologue va au jardin.

Ik was even terug in Nederland, en 2 Opinel messen besteld, aangezien deze in Thailand slecht te vinden zijn. Kan voorlopig weer vooruit met deze uitstekende messen.
