Leatherman New Wave multitool, Falmouth

I have possessed 3 Leatherman multi-tools for a great many years. I have a large, medium and a small Leatherman multi-tool, each with a brown leather pouch for attaching to a trouser belt. I find these multi-tools indispensable in situations where my white-handled, Victorinox Swiss Champ penknife cannot cope. This is invariably in situations where I need maximum grip and this is where the Leatherman multi-tool, regardless of age, excels. I hasten to add that a Victorinox Swiss Champ will easily tackle 9 out of 10 jobs demanded of it but where brute force is required the Leatherman multi-tool is my first/best choice. The Leatherman New Wave multi-tool (LNWm) performs many, if not all of the functions of my older Leatherman multi-tools but it has been redesigned and refined in order to extend its functionality. The first thing I noticed about the LNWm is its construction. It looks very different to the original model. It looks as though it contains more parts, each part being carefully designed to interlock but not interfere with the other adjacent parts. I have formed the impression that the machining tolerances of the LNWm are tighter to increase compactness in order to add more functions. It is highly subjective but I think the LNWm is actually prettier to look at than the original Leatherman multi-tool. Functionally, I doubt its looks make much of a difference. Handling the LNWm inspires confidence in its use. There is plenty of grip. It also feels more comfortable to hold in the hand compared with the original Leatherman. The extra functionality that most interested me and which eventually enticed me into making a purchase of a LNWm, was the capability to insert a variety of screwdriver bits, e.g. flat, crosshead, hex, etc, directly into the LNWm. However, these particular bits are unique to the LNWm because the socket into which each bit fits is a very special shape. But there is a workaround for users who wish to use their own standard 'HEX' bits. A special extension bar can be purchased which plugs directly into the special socket of the LNWm, the other end of which will accept standard HEX bits thereby greatly extending the usefulness of the LNWm. There is available a selection of special bits for the LNWm. They are inserted into two plastic strips to prevent them from being mislaid or lost. I have discovered that if these two strips are placed one on top of the other they will fit into the pouch supplied for the LNWm. However, these strips won't fit into the pouch if the LNWm already occupies it. I purchased these special bits along with a second black leather pouch. Now I can keep the special bits with my LNWm. I now have two pouches on my belt. Furthermore, I purchased the special extension bar, which will easily slide in alongside the two plastic strips. I have not mentioned the black, leather, belt-fitting pouch into which the LNWm will fit. It, too, is designed and manufactured to a very high standard and tolerance and it uses quality materials in its construction. The pouch has rubberized side pieces/bands, which ensure the LNWm is firmly gripped when inserted into the pouch. It cannot easily fall out if the button on the pouch is not closed. The same is true of the strips holding the special bits. The second leather pouch holds all my special bits AND the special extension bar. I highly recommend this configuration for maximum flexibility and usefulness.
