Looking for a santoku knife that’s a cut above the rest?

The **Eden Essentials santoku knife** is a Japanese chef’s knife. In Japan this knife is mostly used for preparing sushi. Remarkable are the dimples in the blade itself which will ensure that ingredients won’t stick to the surface of the blade. This knife is indispensable in your kitchen.


## Use


A santoku knife is perfect when slicing?, but also when dicing, or chopping herbs. With the santoku knife we noticed that the sides of the knife remain almost horizontal but go up a little at the tip. The Japanese precision also requires a different cutting technique which deviates from western techniques. By cutting straight down you shortly come in contact with the cutting board enabling you to keep up the pace.


## About the blade


The type of steel used for this blade is X50CrMoV15. It is a type of steel often used by renowned brands because it has great cutting qualities and is great against rust. The blade has been grinded down very thinly making the cutting resistance very low for a western knife. You can easily cut most ingredients in half. 


## Handle


The design of the handle is classic and ergonomically sound. The blade runs all the way through to the end of the full-tang handle. This classic German handle – which can be recognized by its handle fasteners – is made from pom. A sustainable, hard type of plastic.


## Maintenance


Each knife should be sharpened in time. Fortunately this steel makes sharpening a piece of cake. Simply move the knife alongside a sharpening steel, or sharpening your knife with sharpening stones is something you can easily do yourself! In order to maintain your knife’s sharpness the blade should never touch other knives. For this reason we advise you to store your knives in a knife block. For the same reason you should never use cutting boards made from glass, porcelain, or stone. Always use wood or plastic.


The Eden Essentials kitchen knives are dishwasher-proof, but we advise you to wash them by hand to prevent anything from damaging the material. As a result you will be able to enjoy these amazing knives even longer. Of course, the world is not going to end if you place your knives in the dishwasher once. However, when you use your dishwasher more often the detergent can affect the steel and plastic leaving you with rust on your blade and dull handles.

Ik zocht een vervanging voor m'n naamloze messen waar de staalsoort niet van bekend was. Honderden euro's aan zakmessen, maar geen fatsoenlijk keukenmes in huis was een scheve verhouding. 

Voor het geld was een bijna belachelijk wat voor kwaliteit je krijgt. Dezelfde staalsoort als Wusthof voor een schijntje van de prijs. De Santoku heeft een mooie kromming in het lemmet zodat het nog beter bruikbaar is voor hakken en versnipperen. Erg makkelijk scherp te krijgen en houden. Aanrader!
