The **TOPS El Chete** is the embodiment of destruction. This machete has been built to chop wood. As soon as you hold the El Chete, you can tell that this is a serious knife. Its weight makes it an outstanding knife for chopping. The balance lies on the blade, so you can apply a lot of force.



The blade of the TOPS El Chete is made from 1095 carbon steel. At the cutting edge, it has a Rockwell hardness of 56-58 HRC. This is much lower around the spine, however. This gives you the best of both worlds: a harder cutting edge for sharpness retention, and a tougher spine that absorbs the blows. You can see the gradient from hard to soft on the side of the blade in the transition from light grey to dark grey. 1095 steel is excellent for absorbing the impact and stress of chopping. The cutting edge is also nice and easy to sharpen. You do have to watch out for rust, though, because 1095 is not a stainless steel. Make sure to clean it after use and apply a little oil every now and then.



The handle of such a large, solid knife needs to be excellent. Grip is super important when you're exerting so much force on a cutting tool. Luckily, Leo Espinoza, the designer and boss of TOPS Knives, has thought carefully about this. The micarta handle offers excellent grip even in wet conditions or when you're wearing gloves. The large finger groove at the front of the handle ensures that the handle won't slip out of your grasp. There are also lanyard eyes to attach a wrist cord.



A Kydex sheath is included, so you can carry the El Chete with you. A press stud holds the knife firmly in place. This sheath also has a rotating steel clip so you can attach it to your belt.
