# Blade made of 1095 CroVan carbon steel
The blade of this fixed knife is made of 1095 CroVan carbon steel, and measures 12.8 cm in length. 1095 steel can be seen as a true veteran in the world of steel. It has been made and used for many years. It's a tough type of steel that is easy to sharpen to a razor-sharp edge, even with limited resources. This makes it a popular choice for knives that see a lot of use in the field: all you need is a simple [sharpening stone](/en/pt/-skerper-pocket-stone-diamond-ceramic-sharpening-stone-so003.htm) to get your sharp edge back. This is the CroVan version of 1095, an alloy used by KA-BAR in particular. It offers even slightly better sharpness retention than conventional 1095.

1095 CroVan carbon steel is not very corrosion-resistant. In fact, it discolours pretty quickly when it comes into contact with moisture and/or salt and acid. So clean the knife after use and give it a drop of oil every now and then. Over time, 1095 CroVan steel does form a patina. This makes it less susceptible to corrosion.
